University City is a 20-minute commute from Uptown and is home of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. This neighborhood will be the end stop for the city’s expanding light rail LYNX Blue Line. With roughly 37,284 residents. University City has some of the best places, to eat, drink, shop and live with the median age of 34.3 making this an excellent generation X scene.
You aren’t really in University City if you haven’t hit the many places off University City Blvd. Some spots that we love:
Bar Louie: One of the Team’s favorite and with good reason. If you love a great burger, then you must experience Burger Night on Tuesday for Half Off Burgers. We first fell in love with this place in our hometown of St. Louis, MO and once this place opened in Charlotte, we immediately felt complete.
Boardwalk Billy’s Raw Bar and Ribs: This upbeat spot is a great atmosphere for watching the sports on weekends, and the ribs are above standard. Located on the boardwalk with a brief walk to the man-made pond where you can paddle boat and feed ducks if you are into that kind of thing.
The Wine Vault: If you are looking for a nice chill place to enjoy a bottle of wine or beer on tap then this is it. On the weekends enjoy live music from 7 pm to 11 pm. Perfect for date night!
Lynx Blue Line: A quick commute too and form Uptown is finally here with the new edition of the light rail both for students and city residents.
Quality of life
Surprisingly there's plenty to do in the university area if you don't attend the University. Some of Charlotte’s hottest events take place all across University City and are open for everyone. Concerts at PNC Pavilion, NASCAR races at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the International Festival at UNC Charlotte and the unique University City Duathlon in University Research Park to name a few.
